Many older nuclear plants are being subjected to refurbishment to replace obsolescent equipment and to upgrade using advanced computerized technology. This effort tends to be focused on the control room and its associated human-machine interfaces. It is crucial that good ergonomics is applied in these upgrades or there will be poor operator acceptance and increasing human error.
